Terms of Use

Last updated: August 2026

By downloading or using Compass, you agree to these terms. Compass is an independent news reader built and maintained by Daniel Southam. It is designed to respect your privacy while providing a clean reading experience.

Third-Party Content

Compass functions as a news aggregator and reader. All articles, headlines, images, and trademarks fetched by the app remain the intellectual property of their respective publishers. Compass does not claim ownership over any news content displayed within the app.

Informational Use Only

The political spectrum lean indicators and curated news feeds provided within Compass are intended for informational purposes only. While every effort is made to provide a balanced overview, these classifications do not guarantee absolute accuracy, nor do they represent personal endorsement or the views of Southam Apps New Zealand.

Purchases

Compass is free to download. Some features are offered as an optional, one-time Pro upgrade, purchased and processed through Google Play. All payments, receipts, and refunds are handled by Google under the Google Play Terms of Service; Southam Apps New Zealand does not process payments directly and does not receive your payment details. If you previously purchased Compass as a paid app, the Pro upgrade is provided to you at no additional cost.

"As-Is" Service & Liability

Compass is provided on an "as-is" and "as-available" basis. Because the app relies on third-party RSS and Atom feeds, we cannot guarantee uninterrupted service. We are not liable for external server downtime, changes to publisher website structures, or errors in article parsing.

Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these terms at any time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated revision date.
